(Open letter to the Minister of Justice, Amy Adams)

According to your Government's definition of family violence (https://www.msd.govt.nz/about-msd-and-our-work/work-programmes/initiatives/action-family-violence/family-violence-indicators.html),

"Family violence covers a broad range of controlling behaviours, commonly of a physical, sexual and/or psychological nature, which typically involve fear, intimidation and emotional deprivation."

You have been behaving towards men (especially towards myself, since I am New Zealand's principal Men's Rights Activist on the topic of family violence) in a viciously controlling manner. You have been intimidating those men who are aware of your behaviour and inspiring fear in them, as well as emotionally depriving them of the feeling that you have their interests at heart. Therefore, by the above definition (which, of course, is a complete joke), you are assaulting me -- despite the fact that we are not in the same family (thank goodness!).

Viciously Controlling

When I wrote to you about the Human Rights Commission, you refused to address the issues which I raised about its demonstrable bias.

Again, when you advertised for people to come and speak to you about sexual violence, you refused to let me come and see you.

The document "Strengthening New Zealand's legislative response to family violence" refers to "strengthening" what New Zealand already has in place, so you have predetermined that what we have in place is fine, and that all we need to do is strengthen it. This prevents anyone from pointing out the irrational, anti-male flaws in the Domestic Violence Act 1995, since you have obviously ruled out considering any fundamental flaws that it might have. See my article The Influence of Non-Legal Research on Legal Approaches to Ex Parte Domestic Violence Protection Orders.

Fear and Intimidation

On TV One on Sunday 2nd August 2015, I heard you say that Domestic Violence always or usually involves "control", which is a lie, and has never been proved using evidence. The people who tell this lie are Feminists, and they never look for forms of "control" which are exercised by women and concentrate on being hostile towards men and interpreting male behaviour as being control-focussed.

You say in your preface to "Strengthening New Zealand's legislative response to family violence" that the Government is committed to "keeping victims safe, particularly women and children." That is discriminatory, and amounts to a declaration of war by you on men.

At the front of this document, there is an unexplained, full-page photograph of a woman, which underlines the message that you are just about women. This message, communicated to the police and the courts via legislation, is intimidatory towards men and causes fear. Any violent reaction by men to your, the police's or the courts' sexism, discrimination and intimidation would be perfectly understandable -- not to say inevitable. In fact, that is probably the main reason that the current family law is not working. You are oppressing men, and men are fighting back in the only way they know how.

On TV One on Sunday 2nd August 2015, I heard you say that most Domestic Violence is committed by men, which is a lie -- and you provided no evidence. There is a huge mass of research (listed and summarised by Professor Fiebert) which proves that "women are as physically aggressive, or more aggressive, than men in their relationships with their spouses or male partners." Some of this research was carried out in New Zealand. Feminist research, such as that carried out by low-life at Waikato University, just involves asking women for their side of the story if they say they are "victims", and asking men for their side of the story if they say they are "perpetrators". In other words -- just like you -- it predetermines a finding that women are mainly victims and men are mainly perpetrators. That was the research which inspired the Domestic Violence Act 1995, which has so dismally failed, since it treats men as the enemy. The Government's Science Advisory Committee saw fit to include Professor David Fergusson -- so why are you too scared to consult him, as you obviously are!

Emotionally Depriving

You are emotionally depriving men of the feeling that you have our interests at heart, which you should have, since you have the power of the police and the courts at your disposal, through legislation. When men are Ministers, they act for the whole country. When women are Ministers, they act for women against men.

Defining Family Violence

If you look them up in a dictionary, you will see that the words "control" and "violence" are totally different. Obviously, you can have violence without control, and control without violence. Any claim that the two are linked has to be PROVED USING EVIDENCE. To simply defined these terms as involving each other is just playing with words.

I received the following reply:

The email containing the above reply, as an attachment, was swiftly recalled by another email from the Minister's office, but then I was sent the identical letter later anyway. I phoned and asked about the reason for this, which was a fear that the letter had been sent to the wrong address (according to my memory of the incident).
