Physical Bullying, Racism, Sexism and Lies by Christchurch City Library StaffPeter Zohrab 2022 |

(Open Letter to the Chief Executive of Christchurch City Council)Dear Dawn Baxendale,1. I am writing to URGENTLY demand a copy of the Christchurch City Library's closed-circuit television footage of the area on the ground floor, near the book-return slots, from yesterday (July 1st, 2022), between 1:15 PM and 2:15 PM. Based on past experience, I believe that CCTV footage is deleted after a short period of time, so this demand is urgent.I was there at that time and need proof of the physical bullying perpetrated against me by one of the female staff and the male security guard. I went to return a book there. At that moment, the security guard moved closely past me on my right, blocking me on that side. He did not do anything after that which legitimately required him to have made that move at that time. Immediately afterwards, a woman pushing a trolley loaded with something (books, I think), passed me closely on my left, calling out (rudely) "Watch it!" She did not apologise. This was politically motivated bullying, which I have often experienced from Feminists, in addition to actual assaults.2. I am also complaining about the racism of having a Maori name for your library (Turanga), but no English name. In addition, I am complaining about a blatant racist lie on your webpage https://my.christchurchcitylibraries.com/turanga-our-name/ . That page states, "Turanga is the name of a settlement located on the East Coast of the North Island. It is the homeland of the Ngai Tahu ancestor, Paikea, who made his way there on the back of a whale from the ancient homeland of Hawaiki." I can state categorically that that is a lie! He definitely did not make his way across the sea on the back of a whale. If you have evidence that he did so, please produce it for the people of Christchurch to see! If that is just a myth that some Maoris believe in, then your website should state that qualification.3. I am also complaining that your catalogue search engine is sexist and returns only 10 results when you search for "Men's Rights" in the title (https://christchurch.bibliocommons.com/v2/search?query=Men%27s%20Rights&searchType=title&_ga=2.252493515.377594191.1656722540-859446311.1656722540) -- and even then it asks you if you meant "women's rights", which is highly sexist! By contrast, if you search for "Women's Rights" in the title, you get three times as many results (35).Yours sincerely,Peter ZohrabPS I am writing, rather than phoning, because I want there to be a written record of my complaint.See also:
